Product Description The girl with the dragon tattoo is back. Stieg Larsson's seething heroine, Lisbeth Salander, once again finds herself paired with journalist Mikael Blomkvist on the trail of a sinister criminal enterprise. Only this time, Lisbeth must return to the darkness of her own past (more specifically, an event coldly known as "All the Evil") if she is to stay one step ahead--and alive. The Girl Who Played with Fire is a break-out-in-a-cold-sweat thriller that crackles with stunning twists and dismisses any talk of a sophomore slump. Fans of Larsson's prior work will find even more to love here, and readers who do not find their hearts racing within the first five pages may want to confirm they still have a pulse. Expect healthy doses of murder, betrayal, and deceit, as well as enough espresso drinks to fuel downtown Seattle for months. --Dave Callanan

page turning thriller July 31, 2010 elia explores the fine line between right and wrong in a well crafted story that will leave you guessing until the end. I can't wait to start the 3rd book.
wonderful read July 31, 2010 old_reader The Millenium series, of which this is volume 2, share a dark view of the human condition. Evil is everywhere, leavened only by the answering kindness and willingness to get involved of some people. It's probably a pretty fair assessment of reality. This book is just as dark as volume 1 (Girl w the Dragon Tatoo), so I recommend that you plan on also reading the 3rd volume (Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest) which ravels it all up again, and sheds some sunlight (and hope) into the story. Because, in the end, it is one story and one book.
The books are long, but gripping. The characters are very believable - you come to feel of them as friends (when they allow it) and you root for them. The writing is nearly faultless - surprising, given their author's inexperience at this genre - and the translations are superb. I'm looking forward to the Swedish movies made from these books.
No editing but enjoyable July 31, 2010 E Tamar (NY) Salander is a complex character. Kind, evil, generous, selfish, capable, vulnerable - she is full of contrasts and likeable. With a strong storyline, and a suspenseful thriller, it's not surprising that this is a bestseller. It's original, and the kind of novel which creates a cult following.
Issues
Others have reviewed that the novel lacks editing, and I strongly agree. There is much included in the novel that really doesn't add to the story or character development, and therefore shouldn't be in there. It detracts from the pace of the novel, bogs you down with detail, and distracts from the story. It could benefit from some severe editing.
Splendid! July 30, 2010 RaininOR Best book I've read in a long time, very well written, intriguing and kept me up to 3:00 AM. Loved all the trilogy books and plan to see #3 in the theater, Just do it!
It was okay July 30, 2010 Luv2read (Oklahoma City) I did not find this as enthralling as the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I loved the Vangar Family Saga.
It kept bogging down in the story line but I plodded on. I just did not "devour" it.
Was glad when it ended. Would not read again, but it was Ok enough that I will eventually read the sequel. It just won't be next in line. :)
